Menurut Statistik Kaji Selidik Ini, Graduan India & Melayu Paling Susah Nak Dapat Kerja. Betul Ke?
Mengapa? Adakah graduan berkelayakan pointer paling tinggi menjadi pilihan sesebuah syarikat?
There have been a few studies before this in regards to discrimination in the private sector, most notably the ones published by Dr Muhammad and Hwok Lee Aun. So we decided to extend this study, to see whether it is still evident in 2019. pic.twitter.com/3c5Qytrs53— Centre for Governance and Political Studies (@CentGPS) March 7, 2019
We sent 3829 job applications to over 500 jobs. For every job vacancy, we sent these seven candidates:— Centre for Governance and Political Studies (@CentGPS) March 7, 2019
NurSakinah, a Malay female
Zulaikha, a Malay female
Kavita, an Indian female
Nicola, a Chinese female
Thivakar, an Indian male
Gabriel Liew, a Chinese male
Saddiq, a Malay male pic.twitter.com/72COQYJu1D
Ada 7 resume, 7 pemohon, sama kelayakan, sama CGPA, sama pengelasan Ijazah, sama universiti, semua boleh komunikasi 3 bahasa
In the resumés of these seven candidates, they all had the same degree, they all obtained the same CGPA, a Second Class Upper, they all graduated from a local private university, they all had a three month internship and they all can communicate in English, Malay and Mandarin. pic.twitter.com/9ZQUIN4HEW— Centre for Governance and Political Studies (@CentGPS) March 7, 2019
The passport pics to the resumés were taken from the same person. The candidates all had the same physical features but were applied makeup to look the ethnicity of their resumé. Literally, the only difference between these seven resumés was their names & skin color. pic.twitter.com/NpvGOCw3px— Centre for Governance and Political Studies (@CentGPS) March 7, 2019
Calon berbangsa Cina (lelaki dan perempuan) mendapat banyak panggilan berbanding calon bangsa Melayu dan India
The results are tragic.— Centre for Governance and Political Studies (@CentGPS) March 7, 2019
Both our male and female Chinese candidates obtained more job callbacks than their Malay and Indian peers combined.
Of over 500 jobs,
Nicola received 240 callbacks
Gabriel Liew received 179
Saddiq= 42
whilst Thivakar has a dismal callback of 20 pic.twitter.com/D00yB5ZwB3
Nicola only needs to apply to 2 jobs for her to get 1 callback— Centre for Governance and Political Studies (@CentGPS) March 7, 2019
Nur Sakinah, the Malay girl with hijab, needs to apply to 13 jobs to get one callback.
Devastatingly, Thivakar, our Indian male candidate, needs to apply to 27 jobs to get just one callback for interview. pic.twitter.com/i5gbihXbhq
All our candidates listed Mandarin as "intermediate" in their resumés. Yet Nicola and Gabriel dominated in callbacks from Mandarin-required companies. Nicola got a 55% callback rate whilst Thivakar got 9%.— Centre for Governance and Political Studies (@CentGPS) March 7, 2019
"Mandarin requirement" is just a smokescreen to hire Chinese candidates. pic.twitter.com/NtJuzp711s
A Malay girl without a hijab gets more callbacks than a Malay girl who wears a hijab. Zulaikha (who did not wear a hijab) obtained a 13% callback rate whilst Nur Sakinah obtained a 9.14% callback rate.— Centre for Governance and Political Studies (@CentGPS) March 7, 2019
Again, the two resumés were the same person and had the same qualifications pic.twitter.com/Fy4udFa1EG
